LED Bathroom Mirrors: How to Choose the Right One

An LED bathroom mirror does more than show your reflection. It gives clear, even light for shaving, make-up and getting ready, adds a focal point to the room, and can make a small bathroom feel bigger. Here is what to think about before you choose one.

1. Choose the right size

As a rule, the mirror should be roughly the width of your basin or vanity unit, and not much wider. In a larger bathroom a mirror can span the whole unit. Check the space around it for sconces, towel rails and window frames.

2. Pick a shape that suits the room

  • Rectangular mirrors are practical and work almost anywhere.
  • Round mirrors soften straight lines and suit modern and contemporary rooms.
  • Arched mirrors, like our Alba Arch LED Bathroom Mirror, add a stylish, architectural touch.
  • Oval and tall mirrors, such as our Rubin LED Mirror, can add height to a room.

3. Look at the light

Front-lit mirrors light your face directly, which is ideal for grooming. Back-lit mirrors cast a soft halo of light around the edge, which adds ambience. Many mirrors offer adjustable colour temperature, from warm white to cool white, and dimming, so you can switch between a relaxing evening glow and bright morning light.

4. Check for a demister

A demister pad warms the glass slightly so it stays clear after a hot shower. It is one of the most useful features, particularly in smaller or poorly ventilated bathrooms.

5. Choose how you control it

Touch sensors on the glass, a wall switch, or a motion sensor are the most common options. Think about whether you want to adjust brightness and colour from the mirror itself.

6. Make sure it is safe for a bathroom

Bathroom mirrors are given an IP rating, which tells you how well they are protected against water. Check the rating suits the position you are planning, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Mains-connected mirrors should always be connected by a registered electrician.

7. Plan the wiring early

Decide where the mirror will go before the walls are tiled, so the electrician can position the cable. If you are updating an existing bathroom, check where the current supply is and whether it can be reused.

8. Match it to your furniture and finishes

Your mirror should work with your vanity, taps and accessories. Our vanity unit buyer’s guide will help you choose the base, and our mirror collection shows what is available.

LED bathroom mirror FAQs

Do LED bathroom mirrors need an electrician?

If the mirror is connected to the mains supply, yes. A registered electrician should fit it so it is safe and meets the regulations.

Are LED mirrors good for small bathrooms?

Yes. They bounce light around and double the sense of space, and the built-in lighting can save you from fitting extra wall lights. Take a look at our small bathroom ideas for more tips.

How long do LED mirrors last?

LED lights are very long-lasting compared with traditional bulbs, and there is nothing to replace in everyday use. Check the manufacturer’s guarantee for details.
