How to choose a toilet

Close coupled toilets

The cistern sits directly on the back of the pan. They are a simple, reliable choice, and many have a short projection that helps in smaller rooms.

Back to wall (fully enclosed) toilets

These sit flush against the wall or a unit and hide the pipework for a clean, easy-to-wipe finish. They pair neatly with a back to wall furniture unit.

Wall hung toilets

A wall hung toilet leaves the floor visible beneath, which makes a room feel larger and easier to clean. It needs a concealed cistern and a suitable support frame, so it should be planned before walls are finished. They are a great fit for our small bathroom ideas.

Rimless pans

A rimless pan has no hidden rim under the bowl edge, so there are fewer places for grime to collect and cleaning is easier.

Basins

Our freestanding and countertop basins add a sculptural feature to a vanity or a console. Check how the basin is mounted, whether it has a tap hole, and which tap will suit it. See our taps and our vanity unit buyer's guide before you choose.

Soft-close seats and fixings

Many of our toilets come with a soft-close seat. Always check what is included, such as the seat, cistern fittings and fixings, so there are no surprises on installation day.

Toilet and basin FAQs

What is the difference between close coupled and back to wall toilets?

On a close coupled toilet the cistern is attached to the pan. A back to wall toilet is designed to sit against a wall or unit, with the cistern and pipework hidden behind or inside it.

Do wall hung toilets need a frame?

Yes. They need a concealed cistern and a support frame fixed to the floor or wall, and the wall is then built around it.

What does short projection mean?

It means the toilet pan sticks out less from the wall than a standard one, which saves floor space in compact bathrooms and cloakrooms.

What is a rimless toilet?

A rimless toilet has an open bowl edge with no hidden rim. The water flushes around the bowl cleanly, and there is less space for dirt to build up.
